Zimbabwe, the internet and the public sphere

The public sphere is a platform where people can discuss anything affecting their livelihoods directly or indirectly openly, broadly through the internet, newspapers, radio or television with the aim of bringing about social change.
The use of the internet in most parts of the world has enabled countries in Europe to democratize their governance of the state as it is believed that they base everything on the opinions of thier citizens.
I believe through the use of the internet, Zimbabwe has managed to keep abreast with technological advancements as evidenced by the sudden shift from one way media communication to participatory one as several media houses have opened debate on line for the audiences to react to any social, economic or political topical issue not forgetting information access as more and more people look up for latest news online.
Journalists have also shifted their focus and are reporting differently basing their stories on societal needs that can influence political action for example, the debate opened on food security issues visa-vis climate change effects, saw the governement endorsing the production of small grains across the country to ensure food security at household as well as stakeholders in the agriculture sector unanimously agreeing to start production of small grains during the 2012/13 summer cropping season.
This being the case, there is need to allow the public sphere to formulate issues of national interest as the capacity for citizens to engage in enlightened debate to identify societal problems and come up with common judgment helped in coming up with solutions to address nutritional, food security and poverty issues that the country had been battling with for some time.
Due to the fact that, there is no censorship in the public sphere, it is difficult to draw the line between private issues and public issues and anyone can comment recklessly about anything including one's private life take for example sex scandals done behind closed doors and lights are off becomes everyone's business.
